Biography
I am an associate professor at the Faculty of Engineering Technology at Hasselt University and a member of the Digital Future Lab, a multidisciplinary research center and Flanders Make core lab. I obtained a master's degree in Computer Science and Knowledge Engineering in 2004 and a PhD in Computer Science in the domain of Human-Computer Interaction in 2012. My research revolves around the design and engineering of interactive and smart computing systems, from envisioning novel interaction and visualization concepts to modeling, prototyping, and empirical evaluation, considering both developer and end-user perspectives. I have a particular interest in intelligible support systems, where technology complements human expertise (e.g., human-AI collaboration) and adapts to real-world needs, capabilities, and constraints (e.g., in industrial and educational settings). My research brings together human-AI interaction, explainable AI, interactive visualization, and multimodal interaction. I also teach several courses in (Software Systems) Engineering Technology at Hasselt University.
