Description | A group of researchers from University of Genova DIST's DSP Lab, led by Prof. Fabio Lavagetto and under the supervision of Roberto Pockaj, has created during two EU projects (VIDAS and Interface) an MPEG-4 compliant Facial Animation Engine (see http://wwwtgs.cs.utwente.nl/eunice/summerschool/papers/paper3-3.pdf ). Presently, FAE is able to read the MPEG-4 facial animation bitstream from local files only. As part of my PhD research I am working with Alessia Tirasso on adding RTP streaming capabilities to this player and to develop a corresponding transmitter and/or integrate a facial animation plugin into an existing streaming server. |

Description | We present a flexible prototyping environment to support the design of the "blue-c", an advanced collaborative virtual environment. The blue-c comprises several novel hardware and software components that are currently under development, including an application programming interface. To facilitate the simultaneous design of new applications and algorithms that take advantage of unique features of the blue-c, we have to provide the application developer with a flexible prototyping toolkit which emulates the functionality of the final system. In this paper, we demonstrate the utilization of different hard- and software components to quickly build a flexible, yet powerful test bed for application and algorithm development. Description | Vunpack is a video-conferencing tool, th transmission is suitable for heterogenous hosts (in the sense of the available band). The codec (developed in the University of Naples "Federico II" by Paolo Parlato) produces an embedded layered output flow. Each layer is transmitted in a different multicast group (MMG, Multiple Multicast Group) using the RTP protocol. The interfaces uses the VDK library. |

Description | Media Analysis Learning and Transport Infrastructure A multi-layer package for designing multi-channel media software. JRTP is used as the foundation of the Transport layer. MALTI is currently embedded in a couple VR apps including Virtual Director, a real-time 3D collaboration and choreography package being used to facilitate collaborative production for The Discovery Channel and the Hayden Planetarium, among others. Description | A VoIP system device for the OpenCom 1000 PBX from DeTeWe. This Windows-CTI-Application enables the user to make phone calls using the sound card and to connect to the PBX via LAN or WAN. The user interface can be changed using a skin technology. It supports the codec's G.711, G.729AB and G.723.1, VAD (Voice activity detection), dynamic jitter buffers, echo suppression (or echo chancellation when using WindowsXP), DirectX and much more. With a special TAPI service provider any TAPI application may be used to control the OpenPhone 65 IPC. It also support Drag&Drop or Copy&Paste of Numbers or Names. The PC can be used to control the full application. There is also a version that enables blind people to used this CTI application. A voice mail is included and recording of conversations is possible. |

Description | This is RFC 2733 porting with jrtplib. Porting for draft-ietf-avt-ulp-10 is planned. As to real-time multimedia transmission via WLAN (wireless LAN) based on IEEE 802.11b, the packet loss ratio is high due to bad channel conditions. Therefore, certain recovery algorithm for lost packets must be implemented, or the multimedia playback quality would be intolerable. ARQ (Automatic Retransmission Request) is not suitable in that it introduces much latency, which is unaffordable for real-time applications. So we use FEC (Forward Error Correction) to implement recovery algorithm, and leave the recovery algorithm only to server and client but not the wireless channel. |

Description | MPEG2 stream is separated into 1 base stream and 4 enhanced streams using Mediaglue's special technology. Then the streams are sent by RTP. At the client side, all 5 streams are merged to generate the orginal video. If any enhanced streams are missing, the client receives low quality video. But the video playback does not stop even with missing streams. RTCP statistics are used at the client side to stop requesting enhanced streams when bandwidth is low, so that the bandwidth is maintained. It is used by NTT-NS Lab for multimedia streaming research. |

Description | My project is Real time Video Surveillance System, it is consisted of client side and server. The server will process captured images through webcam, convert format from AVI to BMP and then to YUV image format, encoded by H.264 compression standard. The compressed 264 file will be sent to the client simultaneously, which decode the file to YUV format and the image will be displayed by YUV viewer. Since the system is a Real Time System, the above function will repeat one after another, i.e. once a frame is captured and being processed, the next frame continues the same task. I have finished the individual operations of the system except that the part of "the real time network transmission". |

Description | Samsung Techwin planed to manufacture a digital video server based on RTP. Mediaglue provied the real-time MPEG4 transcoder and RTP server. One of the features of our RTP server is to use RTCP message to estimate network bandwidth and send video stream with proper bitrate. The RTP Server was developed on AMD AU1500 Chipset. So I had to compile jrtplib and jthread in the cross-compile environment and Samsung had to make adjustment to support C library on the chipset. I chose jrtplib because it is very light and robust.
